Walk in the Light

Is it possible to truly know God yet continue in darkness and sin? We live in a generation where being a Christian is no more than a box you tick. Many feel it's okay to sleep around, watch pornography, lie, swear and the list goes on. Not only this, but our generation has a warped idea that a person can live this kind of way AND still claim to have fellowship (friendly association) with God. But let's see what the Bible says;

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:5-7, NLT)

According to this verse, Jesus made it clear that God is light. We all know that darkness disappears when light is shone; therefore, when we come into the presence of God and begin to walk in relationship with Him, there is no way any one of us can continue a lifestyle of darkness (sin) AND walk with God, simply because there is NO darkness in Him. If we are living in darkness, then this is evidence that we don't know Him. To say we are believers, but continue to live as though we are not is to lie. The result of being cleansed by the blood of Jesus (which is received by grace through faith - Ephesians 2:8) is that we get to have fellowship with God and everyone else who has fellowship with Him.

This verse is so clear, so challenging, yet so comforting. You can be confident that you truly have been saved because you will experience the light of God in your life and no longer practice a life of darkness.
