Don't be ashamed

One day Jesus is coming back, don't allow this world lie to you. When He returns, He is coming for His bride - those believers who have made themselves ready. Those believers who He knows and recognises because they have remained in intimacy with Him.

28 And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame. 29 Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children. (1 John 2:28-29, NLT)

When John wrote this passage, he was speaking to believers. We know this because it is a continuation of the previous verses we have looked at, and also says, "remain in fellowship with Christ".

The only reason a "believer" would shrink back in shame at the return of Christ would be if they are found doing what they should not be doing. This passage of scripture is a reminder to do what is right and to follow the example of Christ in obedience to the Father. Jesus lived righteously; therefore, each one of us who have been born again by the Spirit of God should live the same way. Sin should not be something we pursue, but our desire should be to please God in our thoughts, words and actions.

When Jesus returns, we should not be ashamed, but confident. We should know whether we have remained in the light, walking in fellowship and companionship with Jesus and the Father through the Holy Ghost. These verses remind us of the importance of remaining in fellowship with Christ, for when He returns, this fellowship will continue for eternity!
