Have you noticed that the world likes to talk about love? But is the love the world speaks of really love if it is inconsistent with the One Who is love?
7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:7-10, NLT)
Love originates in God. When Jesus came to earth and sacrificed Himself in our place, He physically demonstrated what love means. Love is selfless and sacrificial. Love is pure and Holy. Love never fails and never loses hope.
In in order for us to love one another we firstly need to recognise and experience the love that God has demonstrated through the cross. As we love each other, we are to imitate God who sacrificed that which was most precious to Him for those who did not deserve it.
Selah (pause and reflect).
