Christ’s place

Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords, yet He is also a gentleman and will only occupy the place in our lives that we choose to give to Him.

Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts. (1 John 5:21, NLT)

Jesus is God, and He deserves first and central place in our hearts. The above scripture suggests to us that there will be many things that will try to compete for this place; however, it is up to us to keep away from anything and everything that could compromise this.

Our heart is our will. It is for us to recognise the things we strongly desire, and to keep away from those that may challenge or try to usurp our desire for Christ. The initial challenge is in the keeping away... if we can learn to do this, then we have won half the battle.
